For Sale: 2000 BMW 740i Sport

HISTORY OF THIS 740i

I bought this car in  November 2006.  I checked the CarFax report and the AutoCheck report which confirmed the mileage and was good in all respects.  This car has had no accidents or paintwork at any time.

SPORT PACKAGE DETAILS

This car has the Sport premium package, which includes the 18 M-wheels, sport seats and exterior black trim.  The Sport also has a shorter final drive ratio, 3.15:1 instead of the usual 2.93:1, for quicker acceleration. It also includes a torque converter with a higher stall speed for a quicker jump off the line. Underneath, the 740i Sport retains the basic 7 Series suspension: double-pivot strut-type front suspension with forged aluminum lower arms, and four-link independent rear suspension with twin-tube shocks, and anti-roll bars front and rear. But the front suspension is lower by 0.8-inch, springs are 10-percent and 25-percent firmer front and rear while shocks are twice as firm as on the standard 740i. The 740i Sport Package also gets a bigger front anti-roll bar - 22 mm vs. 20.5 mm. Also has navigation, steptronic and on board computer system.

REASON FOR SALE

I have another car and do not need two cars, and I do not have an indoor space in which to store the car.

I am very picky about caring for my car, and I do or am very involved in most all of the maintenance work.

EXTERIOR CONDITION

The paint color is Anthracite Metallic and is all original.  It looks really good and there are no door dings.  There are minor, minor paint chips on the hood (3 as I recall) that do not detract from the look of the car.

The daytime running light/high beam bulbs and the foglight bulbs have been replaced with Hoen bulbs which emit a bright white light, much more white than standard halogen bulbs (yet without any blue tint).

The windshield is in excellent shape.

All 5 wheels are the 18-inch M-wheels with Continental ContiSport Contact Z-rated tires.  The wheels are in very good condition and the tires have plenty of tread-depth remaining.

Trim, rubber bumpers, etc. are all in excellent condition, except for two small strips of rubber attached to the rear quarter windows, which are starting to crack.

The rear window and door glass came with a medium tint on it which I have not removed.  It is very nice shape.

INTERIOR CONDITION

SEATS: Grey leather and have been cleaned and treated with Leatherique.  They are in very good condition.
CARPETS and MATS: Excellent.  All mats have the BMW velcro holders as they should.
NAVIGATION: The car has the Mark III Navigation system (upgraded from the Mark II) and works perfectly.  I have the Southwest region of the CD Map Discs and also a copy of the entire USA DVD which works in the system.
DASH DISPLAYS: Only three missing pixels.
WOOD: All the wood I have polished and it looks wonderful.  There are two cracks in the wood.  It is the Sport wood, which is a deeper Burl than the standard 740i/iL wood.  All pop-up ashtrays and holders work as they should, but the compartment where I currently have the cupholder based does stick from time to time. The factory cupholder works perfectly, but it is worthless.  Thus I have the custom aftermarket cupholder.
KEYS: I have two keys to the car.  Both have integral remotes, are in good condition and work just as they should.
RADIO and SIX CD CHANGER: Work perfectly.  Oh, and it has a cassette tape player.

AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM

The HVAC system functions perfectly, with the heater blowing hot air as it should and the air conditioner blowing very cold air, cold enough to combat our Texas heat. I upgraded the climate control dash unit to the 2001 model, which includes a MAX button.  This allows for full A/C output with a one-touch button, available only on the 2001 e38 7-series.

ALL KNOWN DEFECTS

I think this car is in excellent condition and will provide many additional years of luxury transportation, but I wanted to be very honest about any items not in perfect condition.  They are as follows:

  1. Small paint chips in hood.

  2. Two cracks in the wood.

  3. Two rubber trim seals attached to the rear quarter windows are beginning to crack.

  4. The glovebox latch makes a clicking sound when opened, but functions as it should.

Do not let the mileage scare you.  I have taken care of all problems known to crop up with the e38 BMW 740 series, and I would take this car over another with half the miles any day - if you purchase a 740 with 50k miles, you will still have to do all of the maintenance that this car has had performed on it within the last 12 months.

CONCLUSION

The car is located in Austin, Texas and is available for inspection by appointment.  I have tried to be accurate and complete in my description but if you have any further questions, feel free to email me (my email address is hrucker@gmail.com) and I will get back to you within 24 hours.  If you would prefer to speak directly with me, my cell phone number is 512-689-3xxx.  If I am not able to take your call, please leave your name and number and I will return your call.

I am not a dealer and want the buyer of this car to be as happy with it as I have been. It is an outstanding automobile.  If the miles scare you, I assure they will not once you have a chance to see and drive the car.
