THE C5 CORVETTE

The C5 Corvette features the LS1 5.7 liter V8 engine that produces 345 horsepower and 360 ft.-lbs. torque.  It debuted in 1997, and in 1999 18,078 C5 Coupes were produced.  This particular example is finished in Light Pewter Metallic exterior paint and Firethorn Red interior.  It currently has 75,200 miles on the odometer.  It features the Memory package, Sport seats, luggage shade, tilt and power telescoping steering wheel, Fog lamps, Bose stereo CD system, Heads-Up Display (1999 was the first year the HUD was available), Dual zone climate control, body side moldings, and power seats for both driver and passenger.

INTERIOR CONDITION

The HUD works as it should, as does the power telescoping steering wheel.  The interior is trimmed in Firethorn Red, and 1999 was the last year this interior color was offered in the C5.  Lloyd’s mats are currently installed (black with a red Corvette logo), but the factory original mats come with the car.  There is some rippling to the carpet in the rear compartment (see photos), but all carpet is in good shape and is free of stains or marks.  The seats are in good shape, with the customary wear to the driver’s bolster.  However, the wear has been treated and is hardly noticeable (please see photos).  I have installed new black plastic seat bezels on both seats, and they hug the seat-bottom leather as they should.

EXTERIOR CONDITION

The car is in excellent condition, but does have a few rock chips, etc. in the paint.  They have been touched up and are not noticeable.  The car comes with the Pewter targa roof that can be easily removed and stored in the trunk for open-top motoring.  The smoked glass roof is available for the car (shown in many of the photos) for the new owner to purchase.  The exhaust is stock, but chrome exhaust tips have been added.  In one photo they are not installed, in all others they are visible.

ENGINE AND MECHANICAL CONDITION

The engine runs smoothly, as you would expect, and has just had new NGK TR-55 Iridium spark plugs installed.  I installed an OEM Corvette Z06 air filter housing (for better airflow while retaining a stock look) as well as a new air filter.  The original base C5 air filter housing will come with the car.  The Goodyear EMT runflat tires are in good shape, with the front tires showing more wear than the rears, but the wear is even.  The car has just undergone a full 4-wheel alignment and runs straight and true.  The windshield wiper motor was recently replaced, and the udders were ‘milked’ and cleared of debris.  The windshield wipers perform just as they should.  The car will have a fresh oil change for the new owner, or if preferred I can pass along the AC Delco PF44 oil filter and 6 qts. of Mobil 1 so that the new owner can have the oil change performed as they like.  The car currently shows 52% oil life remaining.

BRAKES

I recently installed new rotors and pads all around.  The rotors are ACDelco Performance rotors, and the pads are Performance Friction Carbon Metallic pads all around.  The brakes on this car are outstanding and smooth.

SUSPENSION

The car features the base Corvette suspension, which is completely stock and functions just as it should.

AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM

The car features the automatic climate-control system with both driver and passenger controls, and all systems work properly.  The system has just been fully charged and blows extremely cold, a must here in Texas.

TRANSMISSION

The 4L60-E automatic 4-speed transmission shifts smoothly and was just drained, refilled, drained again, and after a new transmission filter and pan gasket were fitted, refilled again with Redline D4 synthetic ATF.  A new B&M transmission oil cooler was installed at the same time, and the transmission fluid has not been above 210 degrees since.

FLAWS

The only flaw on the car right now other than the minor rock chips, etc. is that the cruise control recently stopped working.  I have not had the problem diagnosed, but I would think it is the stalk switch, which is prone to failing.

CONCLUSION

If you want to go 0-60 in 5 seconds flat and get 18 miles per gallon in the city, then this is the car for you.  There is no other car on earth that can do what this one can do for the same money.  This car drives as if it were a 2002 model, and to the uninitiated looks like one as well.

The car is available for viewing and inspection in Austin, Texas by appointment.  I have an AutoCheck report on this car showing a perfectly clean history with no accidents, etc., and it is available.  I am not a dealer, just an individual who has enjoyed this car immensely but decided to move on.  If you have any further questions, feel free to email me (hrucker@gmail.com) and I will get back to you within 24 hours.  If you would prefer to speak directly with me, my cell phone number is 512-689-3110.  If I am not able to take your call, please leave your name and number and I will return your call.
